Sunnyside alternatives if you want the count without the plan
Sunnyside is built for people who want to drink less rather than stop, which is also who Modraly is for. The difference is the method: Sunnyside gives you a weekly plan and a coach. Here are four other apps for people who wanted something else, with ours last.
Stay on Sunnyside if the plan and the coach are what you are paying for. Look elsewhere if you wanted to count your drinks without a subscription, without an account, or in the units your own country uses.
What Sunnyside does well
Sunnyside sends you a drink plan every Sunday and you log against it through the week. If you want, human coaches reply by text. After a 15-day trial it costs £88.99 a year, or £299 a year for the Premium Membership. Sunnyside Med, which prescribes naltrexone in the US, is a separate medical product. The point of Sunnyside is accountability to a plan and a person, which Modraly deliberately leaves out.
That accountability is a real mechanism, and for some people it is the only one that works. Sunnyside describes itself on sunnyside.co as having no pressure to quit, and the coaches are optional. If that is what you were looking for, none of the apps below replaces it. We are not affiliated with Sunnyside.
Why people look for a Sunnyside alternative
The first reason is price. There is no free tier, only a trial: 15-day trial. Membership £88.99/year, Premium Membership £299/year. US: $99.99 / $299. Sunnyside Med is separate. Those figures come from the UK and US App Store listings; the annual billing period is from sunnyside.co, read on 5 October 2026. If all you wanted was a place to write down a glass of wine, that is a programme price for a diary.
The second is the account. Your log sits on Sunnyside's servers, and its App Store privacy label lists the following as linked to you: contact details, content, identifiers, usage data, sensitive information and diagnostics. That is the normal cost of a service where a coach can read your week. It is more than some people want to hand over for a drink count.
The third is where you live. Sunnyside is in English, aimed at the US, and counts in US standard drinks. A UK week shown as units against 14, or a French week in standard drinks against 10, is not what it displays. It is not on the French App Store at all.
Four alternatives
Two diaries first, then Reframe for readers who want more structure than Sunnyside rather than less, then Modraly.
DrinkControl
A drinking diary, and the closest app to Modraly
DrinkControl converts what you drink into units, calories and money, and sets the total against moderate or low-risk guidelines. It marks dry days and keeps a streak of them. Your data stays on the phone, with no account. Widgets, longer charts, reminders, CSV export and custom drinks are in Premium, sold as a subscription or a one-off lifetime purchase. It has been on iPhone since 2011, is back on Android, and is in English only.
For a unit diary with streaks, or for anything on Android, start here. It is the most direct alternative to Modraly and has been around since 2011.
Try Dry
The official Dry January app, usable all year
Try Dry is the Dry January app from the charity Alcohol Change UK, and it works all year. Each day you record whether you stayed dry, drank, or drank as planned. It tracks units, calories and money against a baseline you set, awards badges (84 were added in 2025), runs missions and keeps dry streaks. It is entirely free, with no ads, but you have to create an account. Everything is built around UK units and the 14-unit week.
The best free option in the UK if badges and the Dry January framing help you. It will not suit you if you refuse an account, or if you count in French standard drinks rather than UK units.
Reframe
A structured course that leans towards quitting
Reframe is a course in neuroscience and CBT with a tracker inside it: daily tasks, readings, meditations, a community and monthly challenges. What you pay for is the course. After a 7-day trial it is a subscription, from £11.99 a month or £67.99 a year, with coaching on top. It is in English and aimed at the US. Modraly does none of this.
If you want a programme that works on the habit itself, especially with a view to stopping, Reframe is a serious choice and a different kind of app from Modraly.
Modraly
A private drink counter for people who still drink, set against your country's guideline
Modraly is a private drink counter for people who still drink. It counts units, spend and calories and shows your week next to the official guideline for your country, in that country's own unit, for nine countries and in 13 languages. Nothing leaves the device: there is no account, no Modraly server, no ads and no tracking, and its App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected” on free and Premium alike. Logging is free and unlimited, with the full month calendar; stats and history cover the last 7 days and you get two favourites. Premium adds unlimited history, widgets, tonight's count on the Lock Screen, custom date ranges, CSV export and alternative icons, by subscription or as a one-time purchase. It is built for Apple devices: iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with free logging from Siri, Shortcuts, Control Center, the Lock Screen, a long press on the app icon and the watch, plus an App Clip that shows an example week without installing. It has had seven releases in the four weeks since it launched on 6 September 2026. Modraly has no coaching, no streaks and no Android version.
Choose Modraly if you still drink, want the number next to your own country's guideline, use Apple devices and want nothing collected about you. Choose something else for a programme, a streak, Android or an unlimited free history.

Common questions
What is the best Sunnyside alternative if I do not want a coach?
DrinkControl or Modraly if you want a private count with no account and no plan. Try Dry if you want something entirely free and do not mind an account. Reframe goes the other way: it is more of a programme than Sunnyside, not less.
Is there a free Sunnyside alternative?
Try Dry is free in full. DrinkControl and Modraly are free to log, with paid extras. Sunnyside itself has no free tier: 15-day trial. Membership £88.99/year, Premium Membership £299/year. US: $99.99 / $299. Sunnyside Med is separate.
Does Sunnyside work in the UK?
It is on the UK App Store, where the Membership was listed at £88.99 a year on 5 October 2026. It is in English and counts in US standard drinks, so your week is not shown as UK units against the 14-unit guideline. It is not on the French App Store.
Sunnyside or Modraly: which one?
Sunnyside if a plan every Sunday and a person who expects to hear from you are what make you follow through. Modraly if you want the number next to your own country's guideline, with no plan, no coach and no account. They do different jobs, and Modraly is iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only.
