Best alcohol tracker apps, honestly compared
We make one of these, so read this accordingly. What follows is what each app is for, including the three or four situations where the answer is clearly not Modraly.
Positioning checked: 9 August 2026
These apps are not competing for the same job. Two of them are programmes with coaching attached, two are diaries, and one is for splitting rounds with friends. Picking well mostly means deciding whether you want to be helped, or told the number.

One by one
DrinkControl
Drinking diary, the closest thing to Modraly
Tracks drinks, converts them into standard units, and adds calories and money spent. It syncs units and alcohol calories to Apple Health, keeps data on the device, and puts widgets, custom serving sizes, longer history and reminders behind a premium tier. It also counts dry days and streaks. It is on iPhone and Android, and has been around far longer than we have.
If you want streaks and dry-day counts, or you are on Android, this is the better choice. It is the most direct alternative to Modraly and it does most of the same things.
MyDrinkaware
Free tracker from a UK charity
Made by Drinkaware, a registered UK charity. It tracks units, calories, drink-free days and spend, adds sleep and energy, and includes the Drinking Check, an alcohol self-assessment developed by the WHO. It sets personalised goals and sends motivational reminders. Free, on iPhone and Android, built around UK units and UK guidance.
The strongest free option in the UK, and the only one here with a validated self-assessment. If you want to know whether your drinking is a problem rather than what it adds up to, start here rather than with us.
Reframe
Structured programme, leaning towards quitting
A neuroscience and CBT-based programme rather than a tracker: a structured multi-month course, daily tasks and readings, guided meditations, monthly challenges, a community, and coaching options. Tracking exists inside it, but it is the smallest part of what you are paying for.
If you want a programme that works on the habit, and especially if your goal is stopping rather than measuring, this is a different category of tool and a reasonable one. Modraly does none of it.
Sunnyside
Moderation with human coaching
Built around a weekly drink plan: you set an intention, log what you actually drink against it, and get accountability from human coaches over text, with video sessions on the higher tier. Aimed at moderation rather than abstinence, and US-centric.
If what makes you follow through is a person expecting to hear from you, Sunnyside has something Modraly deliberately does not have and never will. Accountability is the product there; its absence is the product here.
PintPal
Social beer sessions and rounds
A different job entirely: it tracks beer sessions with the people you drink them with, including rounds, who bought what, cost per person, totals per place, and a session history. Data stays on the device, no sign-up, free, iPhone only.
Excellent for settling up and keeping an overview of a session. It is not built to show where your week sits against a national guideline, and does not try to be.
Where Modraly fits
Modraly counts units, spend and calories, and puts your week next to the official weekly guideline for your country: UK units, French verres standards, US standard drinks. There is no account and no Modraly server. Everything stays in the app on your iPhone, and you can export it as CSV. Logging is unlimited on the free tier. It does not set goals, run programmes, count streaks or have an opinion about your week.
That absence of nudge is the design, and it is a trade-off. If a nudge from an app is what gets you to change something, removing the nudge removes the mechanism.
Pick something else if
- You want a programme or a coach. Reframe or Sunnyside.
- You want to know whether your drinking is a problem. MyDrinkaware has a WHO-developed self-assessment; we have nothing of the kind, and building one is not on the plan.
- You want streaks, badges or dry-day counters. DrinkControl.
- You are on Android. Everything here except Modraly and PintPal.
- You want to split rounds with friends. PintPal does exactly that, and we do not.
- You need clinical support. None of these apps, including ours. The NHS, Alcool Info Service and NIAAA are the right starting points, and we are not affiliated with any of them.
Pick Modraly if
- You drink socially and want the numbers without being managed.
- You do not want an account, a login screen, or your drinking history on someone's server.
- You want your total shown against the official guideline where you live, and to decide for yourself what that means.
Modraly is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice.
Free to download. Logging is unlimited, always.
Common questions
What is the best alcohol tracker app?
It depends on what you want from it. For a free UK tracker with a WHO-developed self-assessment built in, MyDrinkaware. For a structured programme to cut down or stop, Reframe. For human coaching against a weekly plan, Sunnyside. For a long-established diary with streaks and an Android version, DrinkControl. For units, spend and calories with no account, no server and no coaching, Modraly.
What is the best alcohol tracker app in the UK?
MyDrinkaware and DrinkControl are both strong UK options and both are unit-based. MyDrinkaware is free and comes from a UK charity; DrinkControl has a longer feature list and an Android version. Modraly is iPhone-only and built around UK units, French verres standards and US standard drinks, with the local weekly guideline shown next to your own total.
Is there an alcohol tracker that works without an account?
Yes. Modraly and PintPal both work with no sign-up and store data on the device. DrinkControl also keeps data on the device. If you specifically do not want a login screen, those are the ones to look at.
Which alcohol tracker apps do not include coaching?
Modraly, DrinkControl and PintPal are trackers rather than programmes. None of them run courses or assign a coach. Reframe and Sunnyside are the opposite: the programme is the product, and the tracking is in service of it.
Is there an alcohol tracker app for Android?
DrinkControl, MyDrinkaware, Reframe and Sunnyside are all available on Android. Modraly and PintPal are iPhone-only. If you are on Android, Modraly is not an option for you today and we do not have a date for one.
